This plot is teeming with life, offering a habitat that is both welcoming and demanding for soil organisms. The west-facing orientation can make clayey soils drier. Despite this, the presence of spontaneous vegetation provides an abundant source of organic matter, enriching the soil.
The diversity of soils in this vineyard plot is striking. On the surface, clay mixed with iron oxides gives the soil a light orange tint, while deeper down, there is hard chalk and a few flints. At an even greater depth, the bedrock is principally composed of hard limestone.
