The Plot

"Les Gras d'Huile"
  • Size : 1 Hectare et 13 Centiares (2,79 Acres)
  • Grape Variety : 100% Chardonnay
  • Exposure : South East
  • Rootstock : 41B
  • Year of planting: Section n ° 1 - 1993, section n ° 2 - 1998, section n ° 3 - 2001, section n ° 4 - 2004

Lignite clays make up the first 90 centimeters of the plot’s geology. Then the Thanecian’s dense chalk makes the transition to a crumbly chalk bedrock.
The very sticky lignite clays that appear oily after a heavy rain, give the name of the locality.
Our plots are worked with the purest respect for the local ecosystem, no insecticide, no chemical weedkiller.
The microfauna is stimulated by herbal preparations (nettle, comfrey) that we spray on the ground as well as on our vines.
We work the soil under the row and let the grass grow naturally in the vine row.

The Wine

  • Batonnage : This locality does not need batonnage, lignite clays provide sufficient substance to the wine.
  • Topping : Only in hot weather.
  • Pumping : 1 pumping is carried out during the harvest and then a second during bottling.
  • Liqueur de tirage : Wine made from the blend of the LGH17 vintage brewed with organic unrefined sugar.
  • Dosage liqueur : Identical to the tirage liqueur but stored in magnum for 18 months.
